Mummy Makeover London

  Duration: 5 hr

A Mummy Makeover is a term often used to restore a woman’s pre-pregnancy body. The surgery usually focuses on the breasts and tummy but can just as well include liposuction of certain problem areas or target other areas such as the labia or thighs. This surgery is performed in central London at the London Welbeck Hospital under general anaesthesia, which means you are completely asleep and fully unconscious.

Having gone through the miraculous process of pregnancy and childbirth it is not unusual for women to notice some differences to their pre-pregnancy body. Some areas might not feel nor look the same afterwards. Alternatively women might have lost significant weight and seek to restore fullness to the breasts and want to get rid of excess skin in the tummy area.

Mummy Makeover Surgery

The human body is incredible and giving birth is one of the most rewarding and beautiful things that a woman can achieve. However, the effect that childbirth can have on a woman’s body can mean that we may not be as happy with our physical appearance as we once were. A Mummy Makeover is a term used, for a surgical procedure which can restore a woman’s pre-pregnancy body. This can include focusing on the breasts (breast uplift, augmentation or reduction), tummy (tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty)), liposuction for problem areas such as the thighs as well as labia surgery to improve and restore this area.

Dr Veerle Rotsaert as a female plastic surgeon understands that the miraculous process of pregnancy and childbirth can result in differences in a woman’s body afterwards. This is why she offers Mummy Makeover surgery at the London Welbeck hospital, to restore a woman’s confidence, so she can enjoy being a mother, looking and feeling as beautiful as ever.

What does a ‘Mummy Makeover’ involve?

  • Breast surgery – This can involve an uplift and/or breast augmentation with an implant or fat transfer.
  • Abdominoplasty – removing excessive skin after weight gain and loss post pregnancy which is often done in conjunction with liposuction and tightening of abdomen muscles.
  • Some women also choose to rejuvenate their labia at the same time, which requires a labiaplasty.

Frequently asked questions

Am I suitable for a Mummy Makeover?

If you are in good health and are looking to improve one or more aspects of your body’s appearance, you may be suitable for a Mummy Makeover. However, prior to any treatment being carried out by Dr Rotsaert, we will ask that you attend a no obligation consultation, so that you can discuss your concerns about your body, the details of the procedure/s and have your medical history checked, to ensure any surgical option will be safe for you to undergo. This is the perfect opportunity for you to ask all those questions that you want to ask and to gather all the information you need, in order to make an informed and educated decision on whether to proceed with one or more of the available surgeries.

What happens during a Mummy Makeover?

Whether you are opting for one or more surgical procedures, a Mummy Makeover is performed under a general anaesthetic (GA) and can take between one and four hours, depending on your individual requirements and the number of surgeries you are having:-
  • Breast surgery – this can involve an uplift and/or breast augmentation (inserting a prosthetic implant to increase the size and projection of the breasts) and fat transfer.
  • Abdominoplasty – this involves the removal of excess skin after weight gain and loss of skin elasticity, following childbirth. This is often carried out in conjunction with liposuction as well as tightening the abdomen muscles.
  • Labiaplasty – some women will also choose to rejuvenate their labia, whilst undergoing a Mummy Makeover and this involves the surgical removal of excess skin on the inner labial lips, the outer labial lips, or both.

Will I get scarring with a Mummy Makeover?

As with all surgical procedures which involve cutting and suturing the skin, there can be some visible scarring with a Mummy Makeover. The scarring patterns will depend on the operations you have had, as well as your individual requirements. Breast surgery scars can vary and may be limited to a small scar under the breast fold, but in certain cases, a scar around the areola or under the armpit may be the case. For a tummy tuck, the scar will usually run horizontally from hip to hip and in most cases, will be hidden when wearing a bikini. However, your predicted scarring patterns will be advised to you in your initial consultation with Dr Rotsaert.

What is the downtime, following a Mummy Makeover?

This will all depend on how many procedures you have undergone. However, we would recommend that you take a minimum of two weeks off work, following a full Mummy Makeover. For labial reconstruction only, this may be reduced. You will need to rest well and consider that any physical lifting (children, shopping etc) and exercise will not be possible for some weeks after a breast or abdomen operation, so you may need to make arrangements with friends or family to help out, during those weeks following your Mummy Makeover. Your expected recovery time will be advised to you in your initial consultations with Dr Rotsaert.

When will I see the results?

You will be able to experience results immediately, as this is a surgical procedure. However, if you have had breast surgery, you will need to consider that your breasts will be swollen for a few weeks afterwards, and this will affect the initial results, so it’s good to be patient. You will need to wear a surgical, non-underwired bra for 23 hours per day for at least 6 weeks, following your breast operation, as well as compression garments for abdominoplasty. You may need to have some drains removed from your abdomen, a few days after your abdominoplasty and will also be asked to return to the clinic for a follow-up appointment at around 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months and 1 year after your surgery, to ensure you are healing well and the results are as expected.
