A good neck lift requires targeting the deeper layers of the neck.
The aim must be to reverse the anatomic effects of ageing by targeting the muscle layer, the layer of fat underneath the muscle, the digastric muscles and in some patients even the submandibular glands. Through respecting the soft, plush subcutaneous fat, or the fat underneath the skin we prevent skeletonising the neck which can be a telltale sign of a neck lift. Some excess skin is removed but it is crucial not to remove too much as this will result in more noticeable wide and uglier scars and the tell-tale sign of a pulled fake look.
